Confused
what it all means! Well, we are talking about the increasing use of
movies to teach many of the concepts in management. In fact, this is
slowly becoming one of the most popular pedagogies in management
training.
The
very fact that management is a hybrid of art and science is the reason
behind the usage of movies as one of the pedagogies to tackle topics
which have their origin in the area of arts / humanities.
This
article attempts to present a brief list of different Indian
(India-based) movies (see table below) that are being used in different
reputed B-schools for teaching different management subjects. Many of
these are also used by trainers catering to a corporate audience.
Learning through movies ensure faster grasping and higher
retention and in most cases, particularly for certain very well made
movies, they leave an indelible impression on the student.

The
above list is an indicative list and certainly not exhaustive. Plus,
with more and more directors and products mustering the courage to ‘tread
the road less traveled’, we are witnessing a surge of meaningful
movies coming from our own Bollywood. It is these movies that become
food for thought for management educators and students alike. So next
you hear about somebody going for a movie, just remember that it need
not be just for Masti and Magic – it may be also for Management
learning!
