Once
upon a time in a far off land a king ruled the land. He was loved by his
people and was a good ruler. One day he went for his morning walk when he
heard a sweet sound from a near by tree. The king looked around to locate
the place from where the sound was coming. But he couldn’t find one.
He
returned to his palace and ordered his men to find out the source of the
sound. His men went to the place where the king heard the sound and also
to the nearby place. The guards found a frog on the way and asked it
whether it made the sound in the morning. The frog replied, “ Yes! I
made that sound.” The guards took the frog to the palace.
The
king asked to make the sound it made in the morning. The frog started to
croak loudly. Hearing the unpleasant sound of the frog the king took the
frog and threw it out of the window.
The
guards again went out to locate the source of the sound. This time on
their way they found a Crow. The guards asked it whether it used to make
sound in the morning. The Crow replied, “Yes! I do make sound in the
morning and in the evening.” The guards took the crow to the palace.
The
king asked to make the sound it made in the morning. The Crow started to
craw loudly. Hearing the harsh sound of the Crow the king took the Crow
and threw it out of the window.
The
guards again went out to locate the source of the sound. This time on
their way they found a small black bird. The guards asked it whether it
used to make sound in the morning. The bird replied, “Yes! I do make
sound in the morning and in the evening.” The guards took the bird to
the palace.
The
king asked to make the sound it made in the morning. The bird started to
sing melodiously. The king recognized the sound and became very happy. The
king asked the bird why does it make such kind of sound? The bird replied,
“ I sing every morning and evening. It is my way of thanking the
Almighty for everything that He has given me. It is my way of remembering
Him.
At
that time the King realized that it was not just the bird that way singing
a prayer to the Almighty but all other creatures including the frog and
the crow. The bird was gifted with a sweet voice and so its prayer was
pleasant to the ears. However, even the others who were not so lucky were
also praying to the Almighty. He then pondered upon how the human beings
are more gifted than other creatures on the earth and still they never
thank the Almighty. Then the King, with his hands folded, started to thank
God for everything. It is believed that the Origin of Prayer took
place on that day.
