Abstract:

Cloud computing is an in demand technology for considerable amount of organizations of various fields. Adding as a cherry on top is the usage of green computing along with the cloud for energy efficiency, software sustainability and other obvious benefits that green computing offers thus leading to the convergence of ecology and technology. This paper discusses smart energy system which lead to energy efficiency thus contributing as approaches to green cloud computing.

1. Introduction:

Cloud computing offers major opportunities to reduce the blow of computing on the environment through Green Hosting. Services such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service, virtualisation and Software-as-a-Service all have the probable to use computing resources more resourcefully and thereby decrease the per unit emissions of computing undertaken using the cloud. By raising use rates of computing hardware an cleverly distributing computing to where spare resources exist, cloud computing can successfully support create computing from the same physical hardware than conventional methods thereby offering a number of green computing advantages. Beyond the inherent environmental reward of using computing hardware more economically, what other actions can make computing less environmentally destructive? Computing remains basically an environmentally frosty activity however it is one of the lowest environmental impact sources of new jobs and continued economic growth. Technology driven growth has a vital role to play in the world economy and in the procedure of de-coupling world fiscal growth from ever increasing carbon dioxide emissions. This page does not look for to employ a "Green wash" approach to cloud computing, merely to draw the important steps that have been taken towards an eco friendly hosting contribution. I have outlined below the smart energy cloud system for eco web hosting and cloud computing:

2. Smart Energy System

2.1 Use Cleaner Electricity

By far the biggest shock of computing on the environment is through the emissions generated from the energy essential to run physical computing hardware. Until electricity production is largely sourced from renewable and low carbon methods this setback will remain the case.

2.2 Reduce Energy Loss and Consumption by Data Centres

By combining computing hardware into one site data centres are radically well-organized for their level of service than computing hardware in most non-specialised locations. They do however stand for a source of very big electricity utilization due to the requirement for extensive cooling and other systems. New technologies and current data centre equipment can increase considerably the efficiency of data centres.Low power CPUs have recently come to market which are using solar panel

2.3 Smart socket

Smart Socket is an electrical outlet that allows off site remote control. When there's any device plugged in smart socket, the smart socket can decide if the device is overloaded, and users can check the real-time load current and power consumption of the device. The smart socket can communicate with smart gate for energy management. In addition, smart socket can attach with devices carrying the functions for on/off control which are implemented through by the relay to control the enrolled devices. It is IEEE802.15.4 ZigBee compliant and is applicable to any ZigBee protocol network. In brief "Smart socket" can pathway power use by different appliances, limit power use by time, user, or device, and even say no to supply electricity to plugs that haven't previously been "authorised".

2.4 Smart sensor

Smart Sensor is an infrared action detector included with ZigBee wireless technology. Through infrared gaining, it inducts actions for any illegal break-in. When action is detected, it sends a message to the security centre. Smart sensor is a light switch. When the surrounding also light intensity is low, and action is detected it sends a 30 seconds light on command to the smart gate.

2.5 Smart gate

Smart Gate is the heart of the Home Automation System, comprising of a Zigbee Coordinator, a TCP/IP gateway and an infrared controller. The Zigbee coordinator creates the Zigbee network required for other node devices to join. The Smart gate stores all ZigBee network node device information. The Smart gate also stores the values of energy usage calculated by the smart socket in a MYSQL database. This information can be accessed later by a tablet for viewing usage history. At the same time, the Smart gate also integrates the infrared controller which can duplicate the signal of any infrared device (E.g. TV, AIR CON, DVD etc.) and control those infrared devices via tablet Application by sending corresponding infrared signals.

2.6 Smart terminal

is an android app developed for both smart phones and tablets. By linking to the smart gate, users would be able to check the real-time home energy use status remotely wherever network connection is available. In addition, certain energy data analysis like the energy breakdown, historical energy use profile, etc., is shown at diverse time scales using the pie or bar plot. For smart energy management, user would be able to set the appliance-specific energy use strategy for time-of-use demand side response (e.g., remote on/off control). Furthermore, the modified alerts could also be set up to remind the user when unusual energy use status is observed.

3. Limitations and Future Work

I plan to extend the smart energy system with reverence to varied cloud environment and assess the before and after result on energy reduction. A extensive study can be done to manage the carbon emission by varied hardware devices using smart energy system. A study can be extended in the direction of the searching more energy efficient resources which gives clear energy saving reward.

4. Conclusion

Cloud computing saves energy and cost but it is also not enough. We need to reflect how we can sustain the environment through cloud resources ensuring green cloud as the best option to adopt apart from technical enhancement. In conclusion, by simply improving the efficiency of equipment, Cloud computing cannot be claimed to be Green. What is important is to make its usage more carbon efficient both from user and providers perspective. Cloud Providers need to reduce the electricity demand of Clouds and take major steps in using renewable energy sources rather than just looking for cost minimization.
